K - PS1 - Pushes and pulls - FINAL (CJT 1/10/14)

Module: Pushes and Pulls
DCI: PS2.A (A) Forces and Motion – Pushes and pulls can have different strengths and directions.
PE: K-PS2-1 Plan and Conduct an investigation to compare the effects of different strengths or different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object.

PE: K-PS2-2 Analyze data to determine if a design solution works as intended to change the speed or direction of an object with a push or a pull.

No Clarification Statements

We begin with another standard that asks kids know THAT something is true. Pushes and pulls CAN have different strengths and directions.

The more important aspect, then becomes having kids able to investigate the phenomenon of different pushes and pulls.

They should also be able to look at the results and determine if their investigation was successful.

Possible Questions:

- Students will use a fan to push a ball across the floor. How can they give the ball a bigger push?

- A ball moved like this when it was pushed. Which ball was pushed in a different direction?
